My home automation
A self-hosted stack on a small server at home: my own data, kept on my own hardware, behind a private network and never on the public internet.
Every service is declared in Git and rolled out by the server itself when a change merges, and each one is named for a Greek god, so the cast is easy to remember.
What’s there
- Sensors around the house report temperature and humidity over Zigbee, and the energy meters report every half hour.
- Everything lands in one record, a Postgres database of facts, with a small read-only API in front of it.
- Dashboards show what the house and the server are doing, and more and more of them are on our own monitoring app, built to replace an off-the-shelf one.
- A work board holds every task; a front-door page opens each tool; alerts reach my phone.
What’s planned
- A local AI assistant, running at home, with a knowledge graph of my own data, so it can answer questions about my life and help run it, without that data ever leaving the house.
- More machines, each deploying the others, so nothing depends on one box.
- Open-sourcing our own custom-built apps, the work board and the monitoring app first.
